In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” - 1 John 4:9

--

If we would see the love of God, we must cast our eyes upon Christ, the Son of His love, sent into the world for us. In giving Christ, God gives the highest gift that heaven can afford. He gives His very heart. The sending of Christ was the very venting of the Father’s affection. Christ is love made visible. All the attributes of God shine in Christ, but especially His love. Mercy and truth meet in Him. Righteousness and peace embrace in Him. Here is the greatest evidence of God’s love that ever was or can be.

The love of God is not to be measured by outward things. Many have the things of this world who have no share in His love. But they who have Christ have the love of God in its richest form. The world may frown upon them, troubles may surround them, and sickness may weaken them, yet if they have Christ, they have the love of God. God so loved the world that He gave His Son. The greatness of the love is seen in the greatness of the gift. It was not silver or gold that God bestowed upon us, nor angels, nor principalities, nor any creature, but His Son, His only Son.

Let us then be persuaded of His love. If God had not loved us, He would never have sent His Son into our nature to suffer and die for us. The love that brought Christ from heaven to earth will bring believers from earth to heaven. Christ took our nature that He might take us to Himself. He who came down to us will not leave us. He who sought us when we were lost will not forsake us now we are found. Trust Him who came so far to save.
