I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices

(Isaiah 65:2)

The Bible is filled with passages that remind us of the goodness of God to His people. Verses like the one above remind us of God’s faithfulness despite our constant sin and rebellion, and they should bring joy to our heart.

Brothers and Sisters, do not lose hope. Even when we find ourselves struggling against sin over and over again and are tempted to feel as though all is hopeless, remember that you are a blood-bought child of God. Remember that He has chosen to bestow His grace and mercy on you freely, and that there is nothing that you can do to make Him stop loving you.

That’s not to say that our sin doesn’t matter, however. This verse is part of a passage that is promising judgement upon a rebellious Israel that refuses to submit to the Lord. We should recognize that a life filled with sin and lacking in repentance is evidence that we are not truly in Christ.

That’s where the real heart of the matter is found - repentance. If you mourn your sin, that’s evidence of the Spirit’s work in your life. If you rejoice in your sin, that shows that you likely are in need of a new heart.

Ultimately, if you are in Christ, nothing can steal you from God. And if you are not, no amount of so-called “good works” will remove judgement from you. Trust and rest in Christ today, Believer. He is always good
